DIY Clothes: Peplum Dress for Valentine's Day

I believe that a peplum dress is one of the most essential dresses you need in your closet. Why? It gives shape to skinny girls, it conceals trouble areas for bigger girls, and it's just the cutest thing ever! It's pretty expensive to buy peplum dresses if you're planning on owning a bajillion of them, so why not make your own? Here are 7 easy steps to creating your one of a kind peplum dress!

  1. Choose your favorite fabric print, I love floral and since Valentine's Day is around the corner I wanted to make myself an outfit that would knock my boyfriend off his feet! So I chose these two complimentary fabrics.

  2. Use your own dresses as a stencil, make sure when you cut around your dress stencil that you cut about 1/3 of an inch of extra fabric. Since you're going to be sewing the dress, that extra 1/3 of an inch will give you some leeway room to work with.

  3. Cut the dress across the smallest part of your dress, that should be about your waist or so.

  4. Now use the other fabric to cut a circle like the picture below. Fold the piece of fabric in fours, and cut the circles out like you would a snowflake.

  5. Make sure to hem everything before sewing. You should hem the bottom of your dress, the outer most edge of your peplum, your two sleeves, and your neck line.

  6. Piece the three fabrics together like so.
  7. Sew your dress and wallah! Peplum dress! Add accessories and you've made yourself a cute dress for Valentine's Day or any occasion!
